Pharmas are increasingly outsourcing R&D to CROs to expedite drug development and reduce costs. The model is working well so far, as the fast production of the Covid-19 vaccine showed. CROs perform their tasks efficiently and are growing in number, size and scope. There are, however, important risks in this strategy which should be considered.
